Where every kora begins.
Darchen, the small town at the mountain's southern foot. Your buddy sets off when your steps do.

WalkBuddy turns the steps you already take into a pilgrimage. A small buddy walks the real 47‑kilometre kora around Mount Kailash, over the Dolma La pass at 5,637 metres.
Drag the hour to light the mountain, from dawn on the north face to the stars over the pass.

The great flagpole of Tarboche marks the turn north, into the valley of the Lha Chu along Kailash's western side.

Drira Phuk looks straight up at the north face. Pilgrims rest here before the pass, and so can your buddy.

Dolma La, the highest point of the kora, after its steepest climb. In the thin air your buddy slows, as anyone would.

Down the eastern valley to the monastery of Zutul Phuk, then out across the plain.

Forty-seven kilometres, and the buddy is home in Darchen. The next kora begins with your next step.
02 The app
No rankings and no ads. Walk when you can: the buddy rests at camp at night and carries on with your next steps, on your own clock.
Every step Apple Health counts moves your buddy along the real trail, metre by metre. Steep climbs and thin air slow it down, as they would you.
Water, food, warmth and air, and a little luck. Things turn up along the way, and kit waits in the storehouse at Darchen.
Set the phone down and watch the buddy walk on by itself, from behind or from high above the kora.
Butter lamps burn on the trail for a day, a week or a month, and other walkers' lamps burn beside yours.
Each kora you close stays on the map of the mountain with its traces, and its season in the album.

03 Lamps
Pilgrims at Kailash light butter lamps for wisdom, good fortune and merit. Light one by the trail here; on this page, it burns for you alone.
In the app, lamps are lit with credits, and other walkers see them without your name. Lamps change nothing in the walk, and no money goes to any monastery or charity.
